Scrapbook
Ballyblack
W.I. has been keeping an ongoing record of the Institute meetings and
events in the form of a colourful scrapbook since the early 1970s. All
the monthly meetings and outings are recorded by volunteers who make clever
use of photographs, artwork, relevant magazine cuttings and other 3 dimensional
materials or trimmings to portray the subject in an individual and artistic
manner.
Each year one of the pages is selected, usually by the members, to be
entered for the Alma Lennox trophy at Area Group level and Ballyblack
WI has won this on a number of occasions. Over the years we have also
successfully entered the N.I. Federation competitions for the Scrapbook
and for the Scrapbook Cover but recently we have tended to focus on a
lower key approach and now compile the scrapbook purely for our own non-competitive
enjoyment. This has encouraged more members to become involved by volunteering
to complete a page for the first time.
It is fascinating to look through its pages, evoking happy memories for
many and also giving a little insight to newer members of days gone by
and of those who played their part in making the Institute what it is
today. Long forgotten events, fondly remembered friends sadly no longer
with us and current members in their heyday make this a very worthwhile
exercise - just like putting together a family photograph album.
Some photographs
of scrapbook pages to be added hopefully!
